This summer a few members of the John Hardison Redd family met on the BYU campus and listened as four of Charles Redd’s children reminisced about their father, one of John Hardison Redd’s best-known descendants. It was fun to hear from four siblings, left to right in the photo above are Becky, Regina, Hardy, and Robert.

They recounted their lives growing up in La Sal and how their father used ranching to teach them timeless values. Charlie is best known for his business acumen, which allowed him to build one of the most successful ranching operations in the West. He was also passionate about the West’s history, culture, and pioneer heritage, which led him to create the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies. The Center was established in 1972 to:

“To promote the study of the Intermountain West across all academic disciplines, both on and off campus, and to support BYU’s educational aims of fostering faith, enlarging intellect, and building character, and promoting lifelong learning and civic engagement.”

Brenden Rensink, the Center’s Associate Director, gave a short presentation on how the Center works to achieve its mission.
